The 45th Annual Congress of the Belgian Society of Cardiology is back.
This congress brings together cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, vascular specialists, researchers, and other healthcare professionals interested in cardiovascular diseases from across the country.
This year’s theme is Building Belgium’s Cardiovascular Future Together.
Building on the success of previous years, this year’s congress once again features a comprehensive programme designed to engage and educate professionals across the cardiology field.
The BWGHF session ‘Heart failure in Women’ can be followed live on Thursday, January 29, 2026, from 4:45 PM to 6:00 PM.
Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) and cancers have been the leading causes of death among women in Belgium for several decades. Among CVDs, the incidence of heart failure (HF) is rising more rapidly in women than in men, particularly among racial and ethnic minority groups. As a result, women's cardiovascular health has become a critical component in public health.
Heart failure in women presents significant sex-specific differences in epidemiology, risk factors, clinical manifestations, and outcomes compared to men. Moreover, women often experience delays in referral and diagnosis, reduced access to specialized care, and are less likely to receive advanced HF treatments. Although women generally have a longer life expectancy than men, many of those additional years are lived with disability, underscoring the importance of early detection, equitable care, and targeted interventions to improve outcomes in women with heart failure.
Moderated by Eva De Caluwe and Celine Dewachter; Sofie Gevaert, Francesca Macera, and Anne Catherine Pouleur will be happy to elaborate on this interesting topic.
See you then!
